Pelvic Floor Confidence: Let’s Talk About It

Most of us have been there.

You decide it’s time to exercise again. You sign up for a class. You feel motivated.

And then the quiet worries creep in.

Will I keep up?
Will I have time?
Will I look awful in gym wear?

And the one we don’t always say out loud:
Will my pelvic floor handle this?
Do I need protection?

After two vaginal deliveries, mine was — fine. Not terrible. Not perfect. Trampolines weren’t on my agenda.

At my first kickboxing class, we started with jumping jacks. A quick glance around the room made it very clear who had had babies — there was a lot more stepping than jumping.

It wasn’t failure. It was reality.

Pelvic floor weakness after childbirth is common. But that doesn’t mean it’s something we should simply accept — especially when it quietly affects confidence, exercise, intimacy, and daily life.

As doctors, we often say, “Do your Kegels.” But many women aren’t sure they’re doing them correctly. In fact, when I once used a pelvic floor training app with biofeedback, I discovered I was mostly engaging my abdominal muscles instead of my pelvic floor.

That’s where technologies like Emsella come in.

Emsella is a non-invasive treatment that uses electromagnetic energy to stimulate deep pelvic floor contractions — far more than most of us can achieve on our own. You remain fully clothed and sit comfortably during the session.

It’s not magic — it’s targeted muscle training.

Is it for everyone? No. Severe structural issues may require additional treatment. And like any muscle training, maintenance matters. But for many patients, it has been a powerful tool.

I’ve seen women:

  • Reduce urinary leakage
  • Improve urgency and bladder control
  • Return to exercise with confidence
  • Decrease recurrent UTIs
  • Experience improved intimacy

For some, it’s about going for a walk without worrying about the nearest washroom. For others, it’s about feeling strong and in control again.

I believe in prevention and early intervention. Pelvic floor health deserves attention before problems become overwhelming.

Emsella is one tool in our toolbox. It may not be the right fit for everyone — but for many women, it’s been a meaningful step toward confidence and strength.

If you’re curious, come and try it for yourself.
